How to start?

I’ve been mulling over the first post for two weeks already, and it’s starting to drive me crazy. I’m very excited (and nervous!) about the idea of authoring a blog. I have lots of ideas for posts, but this first one is the most anxiety producing for me. It’s supposed to tell you who I am, what I’m about, and set the tone for the blog. That’s a lot of pressure! Or maybe I’m just creating a lot of pressure in my head because that’s what I do…

I’m very much a look before you leap, do a lot of research, have all the facts kind of person, and this blog is no exception. Case in point: I recently turned 26. During the amazing dinner my boyfriend treated me to, he brought up the idea of me starting a blog, not knowing I had already been considering it for some time. Buoyed by the conversation and my excitement, I created this blog as soon as I got home that evening, so that I wouldn’t lose resolve. (See Hello World!). That was over two weeks ago! Since then I’ve been doing research by reading other peoples’ blogs, brainstorming post topics, and {re}writing this first post.

I enjoy reading other peoples’ blogs, especially humorous ones, as it gives me insight into the lives of others. In a way, it’s like reading a novel. Better, though, because it never ends, and you never really know where the story is going to take you. While this research has been fun, it has also been a little bit intimidating, as there are some great writers out there! There’s also the fact that I  have to overcome my own mental block — I never thought I would be opening up my life and thoughts to people in this way. Minor detail.

You see, I am a very private person, and this blog is supposed to be all about me as a I navigate my mid-20’s and {re}create myself. So much of my adult life has been spent on academic pursuits that I have forgotten to develop other areas of my life, and I suspect that I’m not the only one. So, please join me on the journey of navigating unemployment and trying to build a career, cultivating relationships (new and old), and figuring out my passions in life.

Feel free to comment! I would love to hear from you!
